Guys I tried it several times. it is impossible. Altough it states that it was a response for DK country and such, some other sites (no links now) stated that this game is actually very unfinished, so this is only a sketch, that only God knows why, it was released only in Brasil. If we could just have a chat with the developers... because, for me the theme of this game is cool, it could be a very good plot... may be they release a complete game for an platform like PS3 or wii...

I loved the theme of this game as well, too bad the game isn't as good as it looks. It would be nice if some company would release either a sequel or a remake of this. I found out a new bit of information from a user on youtube, it is apparently possible to beat this game, you have to use a soul attack or something. By pressing the "Scowl" button and select at the same time, ha! I always wondered what the point in having that "BUGH" attack was. I'll play this sometime today to see if it's true or not.

It's a shame there's almost no info about this game on the web.
Because of this, I've started running an interactive disassembly of the ROM and have determined that indeed the game is completely unfinished--not just missing features, not just a few bugs--it's literally not done.
So far here's a trick that I believe isn't documented anywhere--
In the options menu turn TWEAKER to ON At title screen or in game (with 6-button controller) hold mode and press start. You will get a debug-type menu that allows you to edit pretty much every stat of every object--enemy damage, projectile speed, so on and so forth, and also some values related to objects in the level. You can change values of enemies to do no damage, or do more damage, limit them to 0 enemies on screen (so the enemy never spawns), increase that limit, etc. Play with it and post here if you find anything. I'll post more as I learn more but it already looks like there is another hidden menu that I'm going to have to figure out.
Also I'd like to throw in that personally I think the game is unbeatable.

This was fun to see someone actually caring about this game on the net. This was the first game I ever worked on in my career,
The game was serverly delayed, and I was not really happy with the balance. The game should technically be beatable, but it might be too hard to actually do it.
I know we had a few cheatcodes in it, but its 15 years since I last looked at the code and I simply can't remember it.

This forum has been around for quite some time and it seems it's finally started to get noticed. I have been playing it recently and I've managed to complete some of the obstacles but I for the life of me cannot figure out the fun house/maze. The game as it stands right now is a bit of a mystery to us, so if you could somehow give us any kind of information it would be very useful.

Oh, so the game IS incomplete. No wonder I couldn't figure it out, I spent hours on end trying to make a least bit of progress. I hope that you do find something interesting, that goes for everyone else as well. I may do a little experimenting myself.

Yeah, I think it's beatable. I don'to know, but there a stage that seems to be "off". I mean, I think that there is the unfinished part and they've prevent us from getting there and stuck. Between the "enter" and the big circus up there. I think it's supposed to be five stages. Also, I've gotten a hacked version of the game, where we can play with lots of chars in 1v1 and lots of scenarios. There's just one that isn't playable, that is has a question mark. I'm using TASGens, playing with 2 chars. I pretend to do everything I can to beat the game without using tweaker or hack, just a TAS. XD Feel free to add me in msn, I'm really interested on information about this game ò.ó paradisemaster@hotmail.com

I meant "the truth". Johan, if you ever happen to come back here again. Check the youtube video! I beg you in knees for help after the beating of the game. We, players, really want some clue about the codes. If you don't get it, check at least the part 5 of the video. Thanks \o

Leader Programmer @ Nightmare Circus I decided to register an account even though this board isn't really super popular. I'm the guy that posted the "tweaker" information under the guest name "a concerned citizen" over a year ago now. It's nice to see that it's not impossible to beat the game, even though it is incredibly difficult to do. Johan, if you ever see this, I can give you credit for the game being well coded--as a matter of fact I'm really interested in what your development environment was, because Nightmare Circus almost seems as if it were programmed in an object-oriented manner or at least in a higher level language using structures. Did you code this in pure 68000, or is it something more like C? It's very impressive you were able to cram so many diverse structures for entities or actors into the small amount of RAM a Mega Drive has. Also, for some reason, there is a ROM dump floating around, a prototype--that actually seems to, in some ways, be more complete/robust than what actually got released in Brazil. Was this due to having to cut things back to make a deliverable product? One last question--do you know if the game had a North American release? No one seems to know if it actually did or not. I'm betting that it didn't, but I also assumed that the game couldn't be finished either--and I was wrong about that.
